SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 7 -- The McClatchy Company (NYSE: MNI) today announced that Jennifer Brumgardt, vice president, finance, at The Fresno Bee, will become director of McClatchy's internal audit department effective Feb. 11. She replaces Hai Nguyen, who has been promoted to controller.Brumgardt, 36, has been the top finance executive at The Fresno Bee since May 2004. She joined the Bee that year from McClatchy's corporate offices, where she had worked as a senior internal auditor since 2001.

"She is a talented, energetic leader who has earned the respect and admiration of her finance colleagues throughout McClatchy. Jennifer not only has strong auditing skills but a deep knowledge of operational issues, which will greatly benefit the internal audit department."
Prior to her six years with McClatchy, Brumgardt worked for five years in public accounting with regional and local accounting firms in South Carolina and was a senior budget analyst for the County of Charleston, S.C. She is a certified public accountant.
Brumgardt earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from the College of Charleston and a master's degree in accountancy from the University of Charleston. She was born in Augusta, Ga., and grew up in Charleston.
